MBA Parade of Homes Opens - Monday, August 19, 2013

The 2013 MBA Parade of Homes, presented by Nonn’s Design Showplace, kicks off this Saturday, August 17 and runs through September 8.

The 2013 Parade of Homes features 17 brand new homes from 15 of southeastern Wisconsin’s top homebuilders in two subdivisions – The Glen at Blackstone Creek in Germantown and Quail Haven in Menomonee Falls.
Both Parade of Homes subdivisions will feature brand new homes with the latest interior and exterior design and decorating trends. The homes featured range from 2,000 to more than 4,000 square feet in a combination of two-story and ranches allowing visitors to see a variety of home designs.

Unique elements that can be seen this year include: solar panels and other green features, home automation systems, a Kohler digital shower, mudrooms with lockers, La Cantina 12-foot folding door to screen porch, aging in place elements, and much more!

“Visiting the Parade of Homes is a great way to get design ideas for your current home, or talk to local builders if you are thinking about building a new one,” said Kristine Hillmer, MBA Executive Director. “Each builder has unique designs to fit the busy lifestyle of today’s families.”

People interested in building or buying a new home, remodeling, or gathering ideas for home improvement projects will have the opportunity to interact with the area’s top experts in the field.  Tickets for the 2013 MBA Parade of Homes allow entry into each subdivision once. They are available at Parade entrances for $10 for adults, and $6 for seniors (65+) and children (ages 3-12); children under 3 are free. They are also available at a discounted price of $8, online or through several advance ticket locations. Visit for more information.

Event hours are Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., weekends and Labor Day from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Special events and promotions will be held throughout the event, including a food drive, 2 for 1 Days, Realtor Days, Chamber Days and Military Appreciation Days.

Outlook on Housing Released by the National Association of Home Builders - Thursday, May 23, 2013

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recently released their outlook on housing and found the housing market is turning around in Wisconsin and the nation.

According to NAHB’s Chief Economist Dr. David Crowe, “The temporary ‘softness’ in housing starts early this year was a ‘momentary pause,’ and momentum will pick back up for the rest of the year.” The pause was due to the federal budget sequester, along with labor and material shortages.
Housing, according to Crowe, drives the nation’s economic recovery. There will be an increase in housing in Wisconsin, and in the nation. Wisconsin and the nation are entering a period where there will
be more houses being built.
“The MBA has received many inquiries from consumers looking for a builder to build their dream home,” said Kris Hillmer, MBA executive director. “People interested in building can tour brand new homes during the MBA Parade of Homes this August and September. For those who can’t wait and want to build a home now, visit the MBA’s web site at, to find quality custom home builders.”
According to the NAHB report, multifamily homes and remodeling projects are now close to normal levels in the market. This year alone, multifamily homes are predicted to climb 35 percent nationwide.
Remodeling projects are predicted to increase by 2.2 percent this year.
The report showed single-family home activity at 47 percent of normal during the first quarter this year. Crowe predicts it will be a 71 percent of normal by the end of 2014. The report predicts an increased number of people buying a home compared to last year.
Finding the Right Builder... - Monday, May 20, 2013

Choosing a builder is likely the most important decision in the custom homebuilding process. The Metropolitan Builders Association (MBA) offers tips to select the right builder.

Choosing a builder early in the process – ideally before you’ve settled on a site or design for your home – can set the stage

for a successful home-building experience. The building process is complex and most owners need professional guidance

from the beginning to avoid mistakes in site selection, home design and setting a budget.

Preferred Builders Donates to Watertown Indoor Pool Project - Saturday, December 5, 2009

Preferred Builders Donates to Watertown Swimming

Preferred Builders of Watertown recently made a charitable donation towards the facility upgrades to the Watertown Indoor Pool.  These upgrades will once again allow the facility to be used for competitive swimming meets.  It was through a private donation that the City of Watertown decided to take up the project to increase the pool depth, install permanent starting blocks, upgrade to a hard wired timing system, and other improvements to the facility.

The pool, originally built in 1978 through a combination of public, private and business donations, is Watertown’s only public indoor pool.  Since 2003, Watertown High School and USA Swimming Swim Club Meets have been unable use the facility to host competitive swim meets due to the depth restriction.

Preferred Builders of Watertown is proud to support Watertown High School Athletics and the Watertown Aquatic Team with this improvement to their facility.
